Beating Street Amphetamines is Not That Difficult

In my experience, the great majority of Street Amphetamine Users suffer from undiagnosed and/or untreated Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and are using Street Amphetamines “because it makes me feel more normal and I can get things done”. They use it as self-medication. Others suffer from Low Self Confidence/Low Self Esteem and/or Social Phobia, with or without ADD. Street Amphetamines give them the confidence to be more outgoing, to mix socially and to speak up for themselves. Some take Street Amphetamines to support their Workaholism, their Playaholism, or to do crimes such as armed robbery and assaulting people. A few suffer from Bipolar (Manic Depressive) Disorder and prefer hypomania caused by street amphetamines to being depressed. Very occasionally Street Amphetamines are used as Self Medication for Undiagnosed Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

As with other forms of substance abuse it is essential to diagnose all of a person’s Underlying Discomforts/Dysfunctions in order to be able to treat that person effectively. The diagnoses can be clarified with The Beck Mini Discomforts/Dysfunctions (DD) Checklist  or The Beck MAXI ADD Checklist. One of the commonest causes we see for people not getting better is that their treatment has been focussed on one or two problems but they have other problems that remain undiagnosed or untreated and which continue to cause trouble.
